Janna's birthday is December 31st. Considering that we're not quite sure when baby brother will make his arrival, we decided to celebrate a bit early this year. Janna has enjoyed the anticipation of celebrating her big day. We took her to Dollar Tree a few weeks ago to pick out plates, napkins, and decorations. We asked her what friends she'd like to invite, and she quickly produced a list! We asked her what kind of cake she'd like and she helped pick out the items when we went to the grocery store. We let her pick out a new birthday outfit as well. [Side note: A new birthday outfit is something she gets to pick and receive for Christmas each year, but since we had to flip flop the occasions she got it early!] She had been eagerly awaiting her party for a while. Saturday (12/17) when we all woke up we asked her, "Do you know what today is?" She asked, "What?" We said, "Today is your birthday party!" She said, "Now!?" We replied, "In a few hours." She was thrilled.
We tried to make the day very special for her.
We had her party from 11-1 celebrating with friends, pizza, cake, and presents.
We thought for sure she'd take an actual nap, but alas she just spent the hour playing in her room.
We took in an early dinner at Fuji (Japanese Steakhouse), which she refers to as the "Hot Fire" restaurant. They sang "Happy Birthday" to her and she got a scoop of ice cream. After that we went to the mall to let her play, and ended the day by driving through the Avenue of Lights. I believe it was a very special day for all of us!
