My ability to squeeze in blog time has been challenging lately. Family additions have decreased my extracurricular productivity. Hopefully, as our new routine becomes more consistent my writing opportunities will return somewhat. Although, with our approaching move and CRAZY summer that might not happen...here's hoping! :)
Just thought I'd share some pictures from our Easter day, and a little story behind some of what you'll see.
Christmas and Easter are the two biggest holidays with the greatest spiritual significance. They are also very commercialized holidays. Once kids enter the picture, the questions arise: How will we celebrate these holidays with our children? How can we emphasize the true meaning of these holidays and their great significance without excluding our kids from the "fun" too?
Last year Janna had her first egg hunting experience, but she probably just thought it was a fun activity she did one day. This year I had been debating how we could incorporate the fun in with the message of Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. I subscribe to a site called
iMom. They send short day emails (Espresso Minutes - literally take a minute to read) that include links to helpful articles, printouts, etc. all dealing with and addressing parenting tips, marriage tips, and the like. I've come across some really helpful things including an idea for Easter! The
Easter Story Hunt is a puzzle that you can print up, cut out and put the pieces in the eggs. After, Janna found all the eggs, we asked her to pick out the pieces as we put them together and told the Easter story (there's a story/scripture for each puzzle piece, which of course you can tailor the length for their age). I colored (our printer only does black and white) and laminated the puzzle so we can just use it over and over again each Easter! This was a fun addition to our holiday that has already laid seeds for Janna about the true meaning of Easter. :)
