Rare Form

I believe Janna's 15 month check-up marked the beginning of some changes. While the nurse tried to measure Janna's head circumference, a fountain of tears came forth. We were later informed by her doctor that most kids don't like the doctor from this point until they're 2. Great. We were also informed that it looked like a couple more teeth were on the way. She forgot to mention that they were molars. So, fast forward to our trip to the Air Force base. Janna shows a bit of hesitation to Eddy in uniform. "Why is Daddy dressed funny?" This seems a bit odd to us, but we brush it off. Janna and I spend half of the last day of our AF trips in the Chapel because we have to be out of the inn by 11:00. However, that means there are lots of men walking around in 'funny' uniforms. Needless to say, she seemed a bit overwhelmed by it, clinged to Mommy, and even cried some, which is not the norm for Janna. She's typically the extrovert like her Daddy and checking everything out fearlessly. So, we make our way back home and I decide the true test will be church. If she's back to her old self then it had to be the men in 'funny' uniforms. No such luck. Repeat clingy and fussy. So my thoughts are somewhere in the vicinity of, "Is this a typical mood/character change for this age?" Just as these thoughts are running through my mind I bump into a fellow Mom-friend, who notices Janna's clingy state and asks if she's teething..."now that you mention it, the doctor said she thought some more teeth were on the way!" My friend told me she remembered one of her kids acting the same way and remembered thinking, "What happened to my kid?" Then molars broke through and her child was back to his old self. This was followed by a "Hang in there," and I was given a glimmer of hope. Not to say I don't love Janna no matter what, but this change of character (clinging, whining, sometimes screaming) has been a bit overwhelming. We've since taken some peeks in her mouth, and have seen the culprits of mood/character change. Two white bumps in the top/back of her mouth are trying to stake their claim. Yesterday was full of tears, a runny nose, puddles of drool, not much eating, and lots of dirty diapers. Here's to hoping those molars break the surface soon. :)
