Janna's New Room Makeover!

We live in a 3-bedroom house. Two bedrooms are about the same in size and one is much smaller. The small bedroom has been Janna’s from the time she was born. I had been wanting to move her in to the larger bedroom for quite some time since the small bedroom was quickly running out of room for her growing toy and book collection. I had planned to move her during the summer; upon finding out we’d be having another child the plan commenced quickly. I wanted to have the majority of the work done before I couldn’t help anymore. So my friend Rachel came over in July to help me paint Janna’s new room (only after much debate and discussion – and “permission” from Pam – with Eddy that as long as the room was ventilated well it’d be okay for me to help). We painted the room a yellow color – I believe “Pineapple” was the actual name – and a day or two later the furniture made it’s way into the new room. I planned to make curtains, wanted to have a mirror for her at her level, and a little coat rack on the wall for her.

These projects weren’t accomplished too quickly. I believe I made the first curtain within the next month or so, but that’s a good deal of work to accomplish with a 2-year-old hanging around. So inevitably time passed by. I came across a great blog last month, I Heart Organizing, through my friend Abby’s blog.  She had a post on a great way to display kids’ artwork that did not involve covering the outside of your refrigerator. The nature of the display went along well with my coat rack idea, and I began to get the itch to create.

In mid-October our friends Lacey and Grant came for the weekend. I had found a couple pieces of spare wood to use for these projects (and had purchased coat rack hooks) and Lacey helped me with the painting process. I was so excited to hang these pieces in Janna’s room. I believe she was excited as well. With these two projects completed I was re-inspired to finish the curtains. Not to mention the approaching arrival of our new little one, as well as the fact that I felt I should finish Janna’s room before the little guy’s. :) So, this week I finally finished the other two curtains and tiebacks. Janna’s new room is finally complete!

Enjoy some before and after pics (P.S. the before pics are from when we first moved in, although the room didn't change much until we moved Janna in there):
